We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Import Officer to manage and oversee our company’s import operations. The successful candidate will ensure that all imported goods comply with local and international regulations, handle documentation, coordinate with suppliers and freight forwarders, and optimize the import process to reduce costs and lead times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end import processes, including order placement, shipment tracking, customs clearance, and delivery coordination.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable customs regulations, trade laws, and company policies.
- Prepare, review, and maintain all necessary import documentation such as bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Liaise with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other relevant parties to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor shipment schedules and proactively address any delays or issues.
- Negotiate rates and contracts with shipping lines and logistics providers to achieve cost savings.
- Maintain accurate records of imports and provide regular reports to management.
- Stay up to date with changes in import laws and regulations, advising the company on any impacts.
- Coordinate with internal departments such as procurement, warehouse, and finance to streamline the import workflow.
- Handle any claims for damaged or lost goods with relevant parties.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, or a related field.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in import operations or logistics.
- Strong understanding of international trade regulations, customs procedures, and INCOTERMS.
- Excellent negotiation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and import management systems.
- High attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to multitask and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
